VIDEO: Travel #1 – Botanical Garden, Munich, Bavaria. Germany – One of my favourite locations
The botanical garden in Munich is without doubt one of my favourite photo locations. The compact nature and contents provide photographic opportunities with every turn.
The layout is excellent; the access is great and the care taken with the plants means that one can get really good photographs. Early each year (Jan-Mar) they have a butterfly exhibit. All year round they have terrapins and fish in some of the greenhouses. Cacti and succulents, tropical plants and orchids, and much more…
It is cheap (check prices on-line); it is often empty (especially weekdays) and dispite the quantity of plants and flowers it is easy to assimilate.
As an aside, the “Fly” background picture above was taken in the HALL A at the Botanical Garden in Munich. The Bokeh was natural from the Nikon 28mm lens at f3.5 and not a post-production creation! This is one of the 1% of pictures where I edited, lightly adjusting the sharpness on the fly. For the background image on the site, cropping was necessary. I managed just 2 handheld shots (one colour and this in B&W) before the fly got scared.
